Green Markets

Building a future that connects the built environment to healthy forests and people that produce wood products.

We partner with rural, Indigenous, and urban communities to advance forest, climate, and community health.

Our Green Markets team connects everyone along the supply chain of wood products.

That includes people and businesses that:

  • Own or manage forest land.

  • Mill timber into wood.

  • Manufacture products like trusses, siding, decking, glulam beams, and more.

  • Sell wood products.

  • Design and construct buildings and homes with wood.

  • Own buildings and homes that include wood products.

HERE’S HOW WE DO IT:

HELP BUILDERS BUY RESPONSIBLY HARVESTED, LOCAL WOOD

Sustainable Northwest helps builders and building owners buy responsibly harvested, local wood that supports community, equity, and conservation values.

Key to this work is a transparent, traceable supply chain that tracks the wood from forest to final product.

PROMOTE CLIMATE-RESILIENT WOOD FOR FOREST HEALTH

We are part of a coalition that has launched an ambitious “climate-smart” forestry initiative (also known as “climate resilient”) promoting forest health and carbon storage.

This partnership will work with nearly 200 forest landowners – including tribes, local communities, families, and nonprofits – to restore forest health using the best available science and connect those landowners with green builders wanting “climate-smart” wood.

SUPPORT FOREST STEWARDSHIP COUNCIL® (FSC®) CERTIFICATION

We support small businesses throughout the West and Canada to make Forest Stewardship Council® (FSC®) certification easy and affordable.

Western Juniper encroachment is consistently cited among eastern Oregon's top threats to rangeland health.

So we partner to develop markets and incentives for harvesting invasive Western Juniper to benefit nature, people, and local economies.
