Vernita is SNW’s Public Forestlands Director. She grew up in John Day, Oregon, where she enjoys spending time with her parents on their 4th generation cattle ranch. In her 15+ years working in collaborative natural resource management, Vernita has facilitated three forest collaboratives, served as executive director for two community-based organizations, and helped establish a multi-jurisdictional, all-lands forest restoration project.
Vernita received her doctorate and master’s degrees in Environmental Anthropology at Stanford, where she focused on collaborative governance, working landscape conservation, and common property theory.
Vernita enjoys mountain biking and backpacking in the PNW and is writing a novel in her free time. Her cat, Jack, is the head of her household and keeps her on her toes with ever changing food preferences. His current favorite is Fancy Feast’s White Fish and tuna pate.
