Restoring wetlands in Oregon’s Upper Klamath Basin
This winter, contractors have been hard at work to finish a project that has been long in the making in the Upper Klamath Basin: reconnecting Upper Klamath Lake to 14,000 acres of its historic wetland. It's called the Barnes Agency wetland restoration project. It is one of the largest wetland restoration projects in the West. We’re so grateful to the many, many partners that made this happen, including the Klamath Tribes and Ducks Unlimited, and to Sen. Jeff Merkley (D-Ore.) for helping ensure that, when the project was at risk in those final hours before the backhoes got to work, it persisted.
This project greatly benefits salmon, sucker fish, waterfowl, and clean water -- plus the communities and businesses that depend on those resources.
