Making Energy Work Quarterly Webinar: Assessing Pathways for Widescale Microgrid Development in Oregon

Energy resilience has become a top priority for communities as the increasing pace and scale of natural disasters hamper communities' abilities to respond and recover. Microgrids are localized and self-contained energy systems that can operate independently from the main power grid (known as islanding) to increase community resilience when grid disruptions occur.

Join the Making Energy Work coalition as we dive into how Oregon can achieve widescale microgrid development across the state. This webinar will focus on regulatory and policy strategies for microgrids, efforts to standardize microgrids to make them financially viable, and local community microgrid projects that are being developed despite significant barriers. We will be joined by:

  • Allie Detrio, Founder & Chief Strategist for Reimagine Power, who will share policy objectives and pathways for microgrid deployment to occur at scale in OR, including specific priorities for the 2025 legislative session.

  • John Ahrens, Program Director at Schneider Electric’s Microgrid Competency Center, who will discuss Schneider Electric’s innovative financing structures and efforts to standardize microgrids to make them more financially viable at scale.

  • Lindsay McClure, Energy and Project Manager for Mid-Columbia Economic Development District, who will share how Hood River County is pursuing microgrids, highlighting the best practices, challenges, and strategies behind the County's microgrid projects.

We will also highlight the Energy Resilience Planning Grants for Oregon Counties, a funding opportunity for counties interested in planning for microgrids or resilience hubs in their community.

Special thanks to Energy Trust of Oregon for making these quarterly calls possible.
