Ranches & Rangelands
Our Ranches & Rangelands program develops collaborative and innovative solutions to ecological, economic, and social concerns in Western watersheds and ranching communities.
Ranches are an important economic and cultural mainstay for rural communities throughout the West. They also provide
valuable open space, wildlife habitat, and a regional food supply. We work to strengthen ranchers’ and rangelands sustainability by providing
tools and services that help ranches and ranching communities restore and maintain natural resources and improve their bottom line.
Our Ranchland Renewal Program develops collaborative and innovative solutions to ecological, economic, and social concerns in Western watersheds and ranching communities.
The program connects exemplary ranchers and experts in conflict resolution and ecological management with ambitious communities. Such partnerships are necessary to provide lasting financial security and landscape health.
Because there is no simple solution to sustain ranching and ensure ecosystem restoration and maintenance, Ranchland Renewal works to develop and integrate the tools and partnerships that provide opportunities for positive outcomes.
Strategies:
- Encourage collaboration and shared understanding of the land to move beyond conflict.
- Connect ranches to business models and markets that help finance sustainable operations.
- Demonstrate examples, share stories that inspire and provide support to others as they pursue new opportunities in ranching.
- Promote rural-urban connections to create new constituencies for sustainable ranching.
